Das genaue Erbauungsdatum ist nicht bekannt. Um 880 bis 920 entstand eine Ringwallanlage an dieser Stelle. Ab 1030 wurde eine Burg erbaut.
Im 11 Jahrhundert wurde sie mehrmals zerstört und neu aufgebaut. Hierbei wurde die Burg um einen Wirtschaftshof und ein Wohnturm erweitert.
Man geht heute davon aus, dass die Burg etwa Mitte des 12. Jahrhunderts endgültig zerstört wurde. Man vermutet eine Zerstörung durch Kaiser Friedrich Barbarossa im Jahr 1168.
Nach der Zerstörung bedeckte für lange Zeit ein bis zu 6,5 m hoher Steinhaufen die Grundmauern und Überreste der Gebäude.
Ab 1855 wurden Steine abgetragen und für den Bau der Pfalzklinik in Klingenmünster benutzt. Seit 1988 finden kontinuierlich Ausgrabungen
statt.

The exact date of construction is unknown. To 880-920 a ring wall was built at this location. From 1030 a castle was built.
In the 11th century it was repeatedly destroyed and rebuilt. Here, the castle was extended by a farmyard and a residential tower.
It is now believed that the castle was about the middle of the 12th century finally destroyed. It is supposed destruction by Emperor Frederick Barbarossa in 1168th
After the destruction covered for a long time up to 6.5 m high stone pile foundations and the remains of the building.
From 1855 on, stones were removed and used for the construction of the Palatinate clinic in Klingenmünster. Since 1988 continuously excavations take place.
