This lighthouse was originally built some 600 feet south of its current location in 1874. It is a masonry pyramidal octagonal tower attached to a double-gabled dwelling.
It still contains the fourth-order Fresnel lens, which is 200 feet ASL.
By 1993 erosion had brought the light to within 60 feet of the cliffs, so the entire structure was lifted on house jacks and removed to its current location, a couple hundred yards inland. The fog horn still remains near its original site, backed by modern concrete walls to keep the horn from blasting the tourists off the cliff!
