In Trephina Gorge Nature Park, there are two gorges cutting the Eastern MacDonnell Ranges, John Hayes Rock Hole and Trephina Gorge itself. Trephina Gorge is the wider and more accessible one. There are several official walking trails and a camping area in the park.
The cliffs of Trepina Gorge consist of quartzite rock that was created about 300 - 350 million years ago and has been eroded by the water from Trephina Creek. An interesting rock layering structure is well visible. The creek bed contains much fine sand transported there by the creek. The creek bed falls (partially) dry during the dry season.
