The Fort is owned by Young County and there is no charge to enter. The grounds are open to the public during the daylight hours.

Fort Belknap, was a United States Army post. It is located three miles south of the town of Newcastle.

Fort Belknap became the hub of a network of roads stretching in every direction; the most notable of these was the Butterfield Overland Mail route from St. Louis to San Francisco.
