The Calgary Shooting Centre has three ranges. Two of these are 25-metre-long gallery ranges, each with 6 lanes equipped with computer-controlled target retrieval systems.
The third range is the first cinema range in North America, where shooters can fire real firearms at a video screen. Video targets are projected onto the front of a paper screen, while infrared lights shine onto it from behind. When the round pierces the paper, cameras pick up the newly-revealed infrared light and pinpoint the exact location of the shot, using that information to indicate a hit or miss on the video display. Different scenarios can be displayed, from hunting scenes to reactive defensive scenarios used for law enforcement training. The range is rated for any rifle calibre.
Other advanced technology used at this facility include modern backstops that allow the use of steel jacketed or steel cored ammunition, modern ventilation systems that meet US Army and Navy requirements, and specially designed acoustic dampening.
In addition to the ranges, the Calgary Shooting Centre also has a gun store that stocks most major brands, a gunsmith, and training staff.
