Fritz Pümpin (1901-1972) was a Swiss painter who is especially known for his impressionist landscape paintings. The Fritz Pümpin Foundation created a walk through his home town with twelve stations showing the differences between the time when they were created and today.
The picture was painted in 1947. The exact location where the painter stood is now overbuilt with family homes. So the building in the foreground of the painting is not the one on the photograph, but its southern neighbour. The houses in the background and the church have not changed much, the trees around the church are bigger now. And the trees in the foreground have been replaced by younger ones.
