This monument is dedicated to
87th Indiana Infantry Regiment in recognition of their service during the
Battle of Chickamauga, fought September 19–20, 1863. This is one of three monuments to the 82nd Indiana Infantry Regiment on the battlefield. It marks their location on Sept. 19, 1863 at 8 A.M.
To reach this monument:
From the parking area on Reed’s Bridge Road, follow the path south west. At the marker to the 82nd Indiana, a path will lead off an easterly direction. The markers for the 35th Ohio and the 87th Indiana are on this path.

Short Physical Description
This standard Indiana regimental marker consists of a 4' x 4' x 4'8" high rock-faced oolitic stone block with a peaked top and a 12" x 18" bronze plaque affixed to its front. Marks regiment's position northeast of Reed's Bridge Tower site.
