Thongs are representative of Australia's surfing culture & are the formal footwear of all self respecting beach goers, surfers & wannabes. Every household would have at least one pair (we have 5 pairs that I could find) & when they wear out, if your lucky, they can be nailed to a tree such as this one.
The tree is in good health & has avoided being felled when a bush block was cleared for holiday houses recently.
