Ce char fut mis hors de combat lors de la libération de La Valette le 23 Aout 1944. Le Verdun est détruit d’un coup de panzerfaust par un soldat allemand embusqué dans un fossé devant "la guinguette des fraises". Ce Sherman M4A2 américain a été confié aux armées françaises libres regroupées en afrique du nord. Il faisait alors parti du 5ème Régiment des Chasseurs d'Afrique de la 1ère Division Blindée.
Ce sherman , n'est pas le Verdun original mais un char offert pour le mémorial, repeint et à nouveau doté des insignes et immatriculation du Verdun.
(eng)This tank was knocked out during the liberation of Valletta on August 23 , 1944. Verdun is destroyed with a Panzerfaust shot by a German soldier in ambush in a ditch in front of " the tavern strawberries ." This American M4A2 Sherman was entrusted to the Free French army regrouped in North Africa . It was then left of the 5th Regiment of Chasseurs d'Afrique of the 1st Armored Division.
This sherman, is not the original but a tank Verdun offered for the memorial , repainted and with new badges and registration of Verdun.
