Le Lion de Belfort est une sculpture monumentale située au pied de la falaise de la citadelle . Elle est sculptée en haut-relief par le sculpteur alsacien Auguste Bartholdi. Elle représente un lion couché et blessé prêt à se dresser qui repose sur un piédestal en rocaillage et commémore la résistance de la ville assiégée par les Prussiens durant la guerre de 1870, et à l'issue de laquelle la zone, correspondant à l'actuel Territoire de Belfort, sera la seule partie de l'Alsace à rester française.
The Lion of Belfort is a monumental sculpture at the foot of the cliff of the citadel. It is carved in high relief by the Alsatian sculptor Auguste Bartholdi.
