This sister city plaque is mounted next to the entrance of the town hall of Hinterzarten.
The twinnage between Hinterzarten and its French sister city Eguisheim was signed in 2004/05.
The plaque is bilingual German and French and signed by the two mayors of the cities.
The German text translated to English:
"Since 1968 there are friendly relations between the two communities.
Respect for human rights, human dignity, freedom, democracy, equality, constitutional legality and the preservation of peace are the cornerstones of this friendship.
Now, that this friendship has grown, it will be securitized forever and sealed with the signing of the Twinning Charter on 11 July 2004 / 28 August, 2005."
Interestingly, the French version of the list in the second paragraph is slightly different: "democracy", "constitutional legality" and "the preservation of peace" are missing, but it has the terms "Citizenship for everyone" and "Brotherhood between our two peoples".

Seit 1968 gibt es freundschaftliche Verbindungen zwischen beiden Kommunen.
Die Achtung der Menschenrechte, Menschenwürde, Freiheit, Demokratie, Gleichheit, Rechtstaatlichkeit und die Wahrung des Friedens sind die Grundpfeiler dieser Freundschaft.
Nunmehr wurde diese gewachsene Freundschaft mit der Unterzeichnung der Partnerschaftsurkunde am 11. Juli 2004 / 28. August 2005 auf ewig verbrieft und versiegelt.

Depuis 1968, un pacte d'Amitié lie les deux communes.
Le respect des Droits de l'Homme, de la Dignité Humaine, de la Liberté, de l'Egalité, de la Citoyenneté de chacun, ainsi que la Fraternité entre nos deux peuples sont les bases fondamentales de cette amitié.
Désormais, cette belle amitié sera pérennisée par un jumelage célébré les 11 juillet 2004 et 28 août 2005.
