Henry Mitton Wilson lived in St Albans from 1905 until 1925. He exhibited at the Royal Academy and other London galleries.

The artist would have sheltered in an alleyway South of the High St. The outline of the alley entrance is clearly visible in the painting. The painting, undated, is an oil on canvas and is in the collection of St Albans Museums.
