Evacustes A Phipson was born Edward Arthur Phipson in 1854 in King’s Norton. He changed his first name to Evacustes, a greek word meaning easy listener. He emigrated to Australia, but returned in 1889 to earn his living as a painter. He produced many paintings of local scenes across Britain. He died in Rye in 1931.

The building in the left foreground is the Blue Anchor public house. The cottages next door to the Blue Anchor have been demolished. The buildings in the right background are those of the Kingsbury Water Mill. The painting is a watercolour, dated July 1902, and is in the collection of St Albans Museums.
