The fountain next to the restaurant "Gryffe" stand at least until 1867, as figures show, in front of the group of houses in the "hammer" in the Solothurn road. He was called at that time "Hammer fountain" and in 1843 had replaced an earlier wooden fountain. Later he was sent to the Kirchgasse next to the former Schultheiss house (today fashion house Bernheim) was added. Shortly after 1900, when the two corner buildings were created at the confluence of Leberngasse in the Kirchgasse, he was transferred to the other side of the street in front of the skin "for high love" in the Wangner suburb where he - albeit in a somewhat different position - still stands today.
