The sculpture is a tribute to the soldiers who returned home to the farming community of Byford after serving their country in both World Wars.The sculpture was designed and created by Len Zuks, as were several others in the township.
The ex-soldier seems to be contemplating what to do next , there is an axe behind him such as was used by many farmers to clear the land of tree and create pasture for the cattle, he is still wearing his army-issue boots and slouch hat
