A WWII memorial on the grounds of the Texas State Cemetery in Austin, TX; this cemetery is the final resting place of many historical Texas figures.

Centrally located within the Texas State Cemetery in Austin, TX, the VE-VJ Day memorial (also referred to as simply the "World War II memorial") was unveiled on Veterans Day 2005 and is dedicated to all World War II veterans in general.

The 3-panel monument was carved from black granite and features a timeline of significant events that occurred during the War, plus two bronze plaques depicting Allied overall victories in Europe and the Pacific.

On the larger middle section are engraved the following words:

The left ("VE Day") panel reads:
"Victory in Europe
May 8, 1945
The German's unconditional surrender to the Allied Forces marked the end of the three and a half year war with Nazi Germany. General Alfred Jodl officially surrendered to General Bedell Smith, representing General Dwight D. Eisenhower."

The left ("VJ Day") panel reads:
"Victory over Japan
August 15, 1945
Emperor Hirohito surrendered during a radio address to Japan. He officially surrendered September 2, 1945, to General Douglas McArthur on board the USS Missouri."
