Of the old wood crib elevators that once stood in Olds, all are now gone, replaced by a single large elevator a mile south of town and this large concrete terminal style elevator north of town.

This is another of the terminals which were obviously made too small, as it has recently had four large steel bin annexes added at the north end. Then too, it may have been discovered that steel bins are cheaper and quicker to build than the concrete silos, the result being that terminals were initially built of a minimal size, with the expectation that annexes would be added later.

If you've ever wondered how Pioneer elevators came to be colored that bright orange and yellow that they wear, here's how: "A distinctive feature of Pioneer’s modern elevator facilities is their orange and yellow color scheme. This color choice was the contribution of Mrs. Pat Cruikshank, a former architect and the wife of the company’s engineer, Claude C. Cruikshank. When the new color scheme was first tried on a single elevator in 1962, it was an immediate success and was quickly adopted throughout the line."
