This mural is a depiction of the Native Americans that inhabited this area as far back as 15,000 years ago. The village reconstructed was from the time period 1000 to 1400 A.D.

Nearby the town of Mt Gilead is the Town Creek Indian Mound historical site. It is operated by the State of North Carolina Historical Commission. There are interpretative exhibits of the native peoples of the area. This link give information on the site depicted in the mural. (visit link)
