"The Bear O’ Fair was one of the largest community arts project ever held in eastern Kentucky. The artisan alliance sent out a call for artists to paint the life-sized bears in March of 2012 and a committee chose artists who outlined their ideals during the application process.
The selected artists — Damon Farmer of Versailles, Michelle Watson of Berea, Charles Martin Mims of Big Sandy Community & Technical College, Linda Thacker of Lexington, Judith Vermillion of Whitesburg, Tim Smith of the Artisan Alliance, Curt Mullins of Pikeville, Payton May of Lexington, William Cory Adams of the University of Pikeville and Jordan Justice of Somerset — used beauty, whimsy and creativity to personalize the bears."
