The Old and New Towns of Edinburgh are listed as World Heritage Site since 1995.
Whereas the Old Town dates from the Middle Ages, the New Town to its north was constructed during the 18th century. Both comprise many important buildings. This blend of architectural styles from different historic periods gives Edinburgh its unique atmosphere.
