"1926 “Hopi Pueblo” home of the famous western novelist and gamesman Zane Grey, on a bluff with fabulous ocean and mountain views.
The Pueblo hotel offers 16 rooms, each named after a book by Zane Grey. There are seven (7) ocean view and nine (9) Catalina Island mountain view rooms. All hotel rooms have one queen bed and private bath with Southwest-style decor. A few rooms have a queen and two twin beds, accommodating a maximum of four guests.
Zane Grey spent most of his later life in Avalon writing and fishing until his death in 1939 at age 67. At his death many of his manuscripts remained unpublished,so his family has perpetuated his memory by editing and publishing them. Over 100 films were made based on his novels. In 1924, a film crew came to Catalina Island to do a movie version of one of Grey’s books, The Vanishing American. They brought 14 head of American bison for the filming. When the movie wrapped, the crew left the buffalo behind. Today, a herd of about 150 buffalo roam freely in Catalina Island’s interior. Kindly, watch us on You Tube “Zane Grey Pueblo” ." (
