Keremeos, straddling Highway 3 as it meanders through the Similkameen River Valley, has a couple of interesting bridges, this bailey bridge and another west of town, known as the Red Bridge.

Bailey Bridges are apparently much stronger than they appear. From the side the bridge looks quite unable to support its own weight when one compares it to a conventional pratt truss bridge. This one, like all Bailey Bridges, sags somewhat in the middle, but can easily be forgiven for that because of its length. Each span is approximately 150 metres in length, pretty long for a Bailey Bridge.

Fortunately for the builders there was a small island in the centre of the river, upon which was placed a wooden pier to support the two spans of the bridge. Each span is supported by a similar wooden pier on the river banks..
