This is one start or end point for a loop hike around Lake Tahoe.
It is 165 miles or 266 kilometers. Some folks do in and back portions.
This trail extends into the Desolation Wilderness Area and would require use permits (which are limited by

Mileage is given to the nearest locations. Expect mixed gravel, decomposed granite, and granite slabs in vertical climbs.
Some endurance types use the trail for registered trail runs.
It is listed as #36 of attractions at Lake Tahoe. A blind hiker completed the trail in August 17, 2014. Pack it in, pack it out.
Definitely check weather forecasts before setting out!!
Average elevation between 6000 and 7000 feet and more. In a good year, snow may not leave until late June. Don't count on cel towers particularly. Maybe if you reach South shore.
