The church was organized in 1818 by Reverend Caleb Pitkin, William Hanford and Joseph Treat. In 1822 a small brick building was constructed nearby and church was held there. In 1836 the congregation decided to build a bigger church and construction began in 1836. The new church was dedicated on Nov.7, 1841.
