Asparagus Community Theatre
ACT was formed in 1981 by a motley crew of aspiring thespians in the quaint town of Armstrong, British Columbia. Ken and Sue Mackie, David and Kathleen McCourt, Leighton and Laura Mellemstrand, Lowell and Leah Paul and Carol Mowat are a few of the original members that got the club rolling. Some of its founders, Bea Kirkwood-Hackett, George Young and Wayne Ashton are still actively involved as directors/actors and board members.
?The theatre was added to the original hall building in 1986 with a grant and much cooperation from the local Lions Club. The theatre addition was opened by the production The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe directed by Wayne Ashton in 1987.
ACT averages three productions a year, with great success, including a recurring production known as the "Too Much.." series, the most recent of this series titled, "Too Much Renovations".
All of our productions are put together by upstanding volunteer members of the community, many of whom have been involved with ACT throughout the years. We at ACT welcome all members of our community to get involved with local, community theatre.

Looking Back...
The Centennial Hall or Old Drill Hall has been a gathering place for social and traditional events for over 80 years. Home of the Rocky Mountain Rangers, 'C/D' Company, 1695 RMR's Cadet Corp., and Air Cadet Squadron 847, much of the original brick of the building has been covered by stucco and paint, but the pilasters are still visible.
1914 - The Hall was completed in April to house military activities related to the Reserve during WWI
1920s - Drill hall was the site of the first legion meetings.
1960s - Kinsmen Club remodeled the hall after a fire.
1967 - Name changed from Drill Hall to Centennial Hall in honour of Canada's Centennial.
1987 - Community co-operation under leadership of the local amateur theatre group, Asparagus Theatre, enabled the addition of the 160 seat theatre on the southwest side of the building.
Original shooting range in the basement is now used for Asparagus Community Theatre costume storage.
