Gabriel Dumont, 1838-1906
Born in Assiniboia, Rupert's Land, he wone early fame as a buffalo hunter. About 1868 he founded the Metis cam which became St. Laurent, and in 1873 became first president of its local Government.
In 1884 he led a party to Montana to bring back Louis Riel, he commanded the Metis forces in 1885, and displayed considerable military ability.
After the fall of Batoche he escaped to the United States. He returned years later and resumed the life of a hunter.

Ne a Assiniboia. Rupert's Land, Il acquit de bonne heure une renommee comme chasseur de bisons. Vers 1868 il fonda le district de Metis qui devint St. Laurent grandin et en 1873 il fut choist premier president de son gouvernement locale.
Il dirigea en 1884, une delegation pour remener Louis Riel du Montana et il commanda les forces Metis en 1885 ou il demontra une abilite militaire considerable.
Apres la capitulation de batoche il prit refuge aux etats Unis d'ou il revint apres des annees pour reprendre sa vie de chasseur.
