FILER'S BAKERY

1939 - 1969

RAY AND LOTTIE FILER MOVED FROM IOWA TO

THE SMALL FARM TOWN OF GLENDALE IN 1939 TO

OPEN A BAKERY AT 7005 N. 58TH AVENUE. THEY

OPERATED THE BAKERY IN THIS BUILDING FOR 30

YEARS. IT WAS A TRUE "HOMETOWN BAKERY",

KNOWN FOR THEIR WEDDING CAKES. RAY DID THE

BAKING AND LOTTIE DID THE DECORATING. THEY

ALSO MADE DELICIOUS VARIETIES OF OF PIES, DONUTS,

BREADS, CAKES, BROWNIES, DANISH ROLLS AND

COOKIES. THEIR SONS, DEAN AND TED, WERE ALSO

BAKERS AND DAUGHTER CHARLOTTE WORKED

THE FRONT COUNTER. IT WAS A FAMILY BUSINESS.

LOTTIE NEVER TURNED AWAY A HUNGRY PERSON

IN NEED AND RAY TOOK A VARIETY OF BAKED

GOODS TO THE FIRE AND POLICE STATIONS EVERY

SATURDAY EVENING. RAY SERVED ON THE GLENDALE

SCHOOL BOARD AND THE GLENDALE CITY COUNCIL,

AS WELL AS BEING A ROTARIAN AND MASON, WHILE

LOTTIE WAS ACTIVE IN SOROPTIMISTS AND THE

GONE BUT NOT THE MEMORIES OF A CHERISHED
