Es wurde 1822 von dem Weinbrenner-Schüler Friedrich Arnold fertig gestellt und diente bis 1933 dem Badischen Landtag für seine Tagungen. Vor der Fertigstellung tagte die zweite Kammer von 1818 bis 1822 im Karlsruher Schloss und einem Haus am Rondellplatz.
Im 2. Weltkrieg wurde das Ständehaus 1944 bei Luftangriffen getroffen und brannte bis auf die Grundmauern aus. 1993 wurde es neu aufgebaut.
