There was a time when in many counties, the name of the county seat was "County Name Courthouse." Such is the case with Sussex Courthouse, although it appears as if no one really uses the "Courthouse" in the city name, except the Volunteer Fire Department. Even the post office just recognizes "Sussex," not "Sussex Courthouse."

This firehouse is just south of the county complex and historic district. A cornerstone gives the date the station was dedicated in 1985.
