Winchendon Soldiers' Monument is a 27' high granite column rests on an 8' square granite base. On top of the monument is the bronze figure of a Union soldier who is wearing a cap, long overcoat and cape with a sword on his left side. He is holding a rifle vertically with his right hand. The front of the shaft has a carved eagle and crossed flags.
The monument was sculpted by Melzar Hunt Mosman, cast at the Chicopee Bronze Works and E. L. Smith & Company was the contractor. The monument was dedicated on October 16, 1889.
On the west facing base is the dedication:
WINCHENDON
TO HER SONS WHO GAVE THEIR
LIVES FOR THE UNION.
