A 25' high brownstone monument honors eight local residents who died during Civil War service. It was fabricated by S.S. Batterson of Hartford, CT and contains the names of eight soldiers from Talcottville who died during the Civil War. It is unusual because the names are inscribed in the lower band and on the base of the obelisk, as well as on dados on each face of the obelisk. The monument was dedicated in 1869 and restored in 2008.
The front, east face, of the monument has a carving of cross rifles, a sheathed sword and a wreath. STOUGHTON appears in the lower band and HUNN on the base. There are three inscriptions, from lower to higher:
