Mezi významné památné stromy mesta Brna patrí bezesporu mohutný platan javorolistý, který roste na hradbách pod Petrovem na konci Denisových sadu. Jeho košatá Koruna dosahuje do výšky 25 m, obvod kmene má 415 cm a jeho stárí je odhadováno na 160 let.

U nás se pestuje hlavne platan javorolistý od roku 1835.
