The American Spirit is an allegorical sculpture by Clyde Du Vernet Hunt, created in 1928. A 10.5' tall Abraham Lincoln is depicted wearing a top hat and a cape. He is rests his left hand on a seated female figure and his right hand on a standing nude boy. Abraham Lincoln represents Charity; the woman, Faith; and the boy, Hope.
The sculpture is best seen when the gate is open.
