[FR] Deux salles dédiées à la Gaule romaine, accueillant notamment le produit des fouilles effectuées sur les sites de Grand (88) et de Dieulouard (54).
[EN] The product of two excavations carried out at the sites of Grand and Dieulourd are on display in two rooms dedicated to Roman Gaul.
The column pictured is called the "Rider Group", is made of limestone and comes from the archeological site of Grand in the Vosges department. It was found broken into 42 fragments in the late 19th century in a cistern, and had to be reconstructed by Lucien Wiener (1828 - 1909), the former curator of the Museum of Lorraine. The rider wears a wreath of laurel, is over proportioned in relation to his horse, and stretches his right arm to grasp an object no longer extant - it could be a representation of Jupiter.
