Rubbings of these headstones are shown on page 56 of Terry G. Jordan's "Texas Graveyards," with a comment, "The visitor can only guess at the sequence of events leading to the quadruple tragedy." The names are all but scratched into the headstones. Hattie's own stone simply says "Hattie.Settle." while those of her three children say "Hattie's.Baby." Note the reversed s in "Hattie's" on the headstone at the far right (south).
