The original Civil War brownstone monument erected by the City of Bristol in West Cemetery is becoming difficult to read. Over time it will become illegible. To preserve the memory of the fallen Civil War soldiers from Bristol, the City erected this new monument in Veterans Green in 2011, on the 150th anniversary of the outbreak of the Civil War.
A 9' tall by 5' wide brown granite monument is polished on the polished front and rear. The the front contains the image of an eagle
with spread wings holding a saber in its talons, a pair of crossed cannons and cannonballs. Under the image is the inscription:
CIVIL WAR
1861 - 1865
The plinth is inscribed:
FREDRICKSBURG
ANTIETAM - PLYMOUTH
A bronze plaque on the monument contains the image of the original monument in West Cemetery inscriptions and a two column list of 54 names:
