1828 ließ Herzog Leopold die Feldsteinkapelle abreißen und ließ von seinem Baumeister Carlo Ignazio Pozzi diese neue Kirche im neuromanischem Stil errichten. Die Kirche wurde 1829 fertiggestellt und war als Ergänzung zu dem nahe gelegenen klassizistischen Schloss gedacht. Aus der alten Kapelle stammt das umgekehrte Kapitell, auf dem die Kanzelsäule aus rotem Granit (8. bis 9. Jahrhundert) ruht.
Die beiden Glocken, die um das Jahr 1050 gegossen wurden. Sie sollen zu den ältesten in Deutschland gehören. Die Umschrift auf der kleineren besagt, dass sie der Jungfrau Maria gewidmet ist.
1828 Duke Leopold tear off the field stone chapel was built by his architect Carlo Ignazio Pozzi this new church in the neo-Romanesque style. The church was completed in 1829 and was intended as a complement to the classical castle nearby. From the old chapel is the inverse capital on which the pulpit column of red granite (8th to 9th century) rests.
The two bells, which were cast around the year 1050. They are among the oldest in Germany. The inscription on the smaller states that it is dedicated to the Virgin Mary.
