The film chronicles the development of the marine chronometer by John Harrison. Harrison attempts to win a prize, offered by Parliament, for a device for measuring longitude accurately at sea. The biggest obstacle to Harrison was the opposition of the Board of Longitude, but Harrison succeeds in the end.
