Long Description:
Marker text: Erected near here by Lt. Col. Wm. Russell in Sept. 1776, under orders of Col. William Christian, to serve the forces then successfully campaigning against the hostile Cherokee who had become allies of the British. Capt. Wm. Witcher's Company garrisoned the fort while other troops operated in the lower Indian country.

The fort was reported located to the southwest near the river; on land now part of the Eastman Chemical manufacturing site.

After missing for at least 25 years, the marker was replaced in 2014 along TN93 (John B. Dennis Highway). Parking is available on the shoulder; however, this roadway is very busy - especially during end of work days. Unfortunately, the marker was knocked off its pedestal - and then disappeared. Uncertain if the state historical society has to put back on its mount or metal scavengers have taken.
