Das Sterntor war Bestandteil der mittelalterlichen Stadtbefestigung Bonns und wurde 1244 in der Sternstraße wenige Meter nördlich vom jetzigen Platz errichtet. Es musste 1898 als letzter Teil der Stadtmauer abgerissen werden, da es den zunehmenden Verkehr in der engen Sternstraße behinderte. Man entschloss sich aber, das Sterntor zu erhalten und baute es an seinem jetzigen Standort am Bottlerplatz aus Teilen des ursprünglichen Tors und Resten der Stadtmauer wieder auf.

The Sterntor was a portal of the medieval city fortifications of Bonn and was built in 1244 in the Sternstraße a few meters north of its current location. It had to be demolished in 1898 as the last part of the city fortifications, as it obstructed the increasing traffic in the narrow street. However, it was decided to preserve the Sterntor and rebuilt it at its current location on Bottlerplatz from parts of the original portal and remnants of the city walls.
