There has been a church on this site since the 12th century. The present church has its origins around 1300, with extensions in the late 15th century. The English Civil War damaged the church, restoration being financed by Lady Anne Clifford of Skipton Castle. Further restoration took place in 1909, by Austin and Paley.

The church consists of a nave with clerestory, a South porch, a North transept, a chancel, West tower, and a Lady Chapel. The church is of stone construction with window tracery in the Perpendicular and Decorated styles.
