On ne peut toucher l'histoire des pilotes du Saint-Laurent sans frôler la pierre bicentenaire de la "Maison hantée" dont la construction remonte aux alentours de 1830. La maison serait l'oeuvre de Magloire Delisle et de ses frères, une célèbre famille de pilotes du Saint-Laurent. Elle est construite sur un promontoire permettant d'observer les navires sur le St-Laurent.

Cette maison fut jadis un poste de transfert de pilotes et les marins y organisaient assez souvent des beuveries, les bagarres ne manquant pas. Or, l'une d'elle tourna au tragique et un homme fut tué. Pour cacher le crime, on enterra le cadavre dans la cave et personne n'en souffla mot. Mais l'âme de la victime depuis lors ne cessa d'exiger qu'on transporte les restes en terre bénie et on dut abandonner la maison tellement les bruits et le désordre y étaient insoutenables.

Des voisins racontent y avoir vu des lumières à maintes occasions la nuit. Certains croient que se fut l'oeuvre du fantôme tandis que d'autre disent que ce fut un point de rassemblement de contrebande d'alcool. Ce qui expliquerais les lumières vuent. Cette maison est toujours sur place pour son histoire mais aussi parce qu'elle aurait été indestructible. Comme si l'âme du fantôme protègerait son humble demeure.

We can't put aside the bicentenary stone of the "Haunted House" when we research the story of the St-Lawrence river pilots. The house was built circa 1830 by Magloire and his brothers, a wellknown family of St-Lawrence river pilots. It was built on a promontory allowing the observation of ships on the St-Lawrence river.

In the past, that house served as a place of transfer for pilots and saileors were often having drinking sessions which often turned into fights among the seamen. One of those fights turned ugly and a man was killed. To hide the crime, the body was buried in the basement and no one ever said anything about the tragedy. But, from that moment on, the soul of the victim never ceased to demand for the remains to be taken to a holy ground. So, the house had to be abandoned since noises and confusion made it an unbearable place to live in.

Neighbours recount having seen lights on many occasions during the night. Some believe it was the work of the ghost and others think the place was used by alcohol smugglers. The house is still there for history purposes but also because it would have been indestructible. As if the soul of the ghost was protecting his humble resting place.
