June 2 1761 - June 1 1839

John Hardee (Hardy) was born June 2, 1761 in Virginia. He died June 1, 1839 and is buried in Michaels Cemetery near Yountsville, Indiana. He enlisted 1775 or 1776 in the Virginia Line, served under Gen. Washington at attack on Hessians; taken prisoner later in the war and placed on prison ship; escaped. (Pension claim, Va., S16140). He was married twice: name of first wife unknown, second wife Lucy Sears. Children: Lucinda McMullen (a DAR Real Daughter), Bella; William; Joseph; Curtis; Frankie (Hardee) Hollingshead. Source: Page 178, Roster of Soldiers and Patriots of the American Revolution Buried in Indiana, 1938 (with some information added). John Hardee was at Valley Forge in the winter of 1777-78 with the 1st Virginia State Regiment.
