Jonathan Harker takes a business trip to Transylvania. His driver abandons him in the Borgo Pass. He is rescued by a carriage from Castle Dracula that takes him to the castle. His business trip was to help Count Dracula purchase properties in England, principally Carfax Abbey. At the castle the Count insists that Harker stay for a month to help improve the Count’s English. During his stay Harker witnesses the Count’s peculiar behaviour.
Meanwhile, in England, Harker’s fiance, Mina, and her sister, Lucy, go to Whitby. In Whitby they meet an old sailor, Swales. Swales tells them stories and he points out a ship, the Demeter. The next day the ship goes aground and Swales is found dead.
Lucy is spotted by Mina sleepwalking in a local graveyard. She meets Count Dracula and from then on starts to change. Dracula visits her at night and drinks her blood. A family friend, Dr Seward, is concerned about Lucy and calls on the help of his friend Abraham Van Helsing. Van Helsing uses garlick around Lucy’s room to protect her from Dracula. Later a wolf crashes through her window and she dies. Van Helsing notices that the wounds on her neck disappear after her death.
Harker manages to escape from the castle and turns up in Budapest. Mina goes to join him. Harker, Van Helsing and Dr Seward trace Dracula to Carfax Abbey and sterilise boxes of Transylvanian earth that Dracula brought with him. Unfortunately, at the same time, Dracula has bitten Mina. By the time the men reach Mina she is drinking Dracula’s blood.
Dracula disappears and Harker, Seward ,Van Helsing and Mina follow him back to his castle. When they find Dracula’s coffin they pull off the cover and Van Helsing drives a stake into his heart. His body erupts into a sand storm and disappears.
