Schönenbuch in Switzerland and Neuwiller in France are two neighboring rural municipalities that have one special feature in common.
The border line is quite complicated in this area and looks like a jigsaw piece. Both towns are almost completely surrounded by foreign territory, both towns have only one road out of town that does not cross a country border. This is not one of them.
The French authorities have mounted a huge sign with a very confusing text that unsuccessfully tries to explain when exactly you are allowed to cross this border. The Swiss authorities seem not to care at all, there is no national marker or sign or anything; at least the canton Basel-Land has added a Welcome sign.
