One legend about Saint Christopher was that when he was ready to ford a river, a child asked to be carried across. When Christopher put the youth on his shoulders, he found the child was unbelievably heavy. The juvenile, according to the legend, was Christ carrying the weight of the entire world (depicted as a cross for this sculpture), thus the reason that Christopher is considered the patron saint of travelers.
Located just inside the main campus gate to the right by parking beside the chapel.
The granite base has the years 1869-1919, which would be commemorating the 50th "Jubilee" anniversary of the founding of this university.
