Construction of St. John's began in 1772. This was once a bustling colonial-era town, but it is now a rural crossroads. St. John's is now operated as a historic church. Services are no longer conducted here but the church is open on Sundays during warm weather for visits.

Williamsboro is more or less a simple crossroads these days. The main draw is nearby Kerr Lake. However, in earlier times, this was a busy place and supported this large Episcopal Church.
The church is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is open from 2pm to 5pm on Sundays from May through September for visits. There is an interesting churchyard cemetery as this site as well.
