The Military Working Dog Teams National Monument is dedicated to the all the Military Working Dogs and their handlers from every branch of the U.S. Military who have put their lives on the line in far off lands.  The national monument was enacted by Public Law 110-181, Section 2877, approved by congress and signed into law by the President of the United States and is located on Lackland Air Force Base.

The monument summarizes the history of Military Working Dogs, and is a spectacular experience to visit.  Bronze sculptures of the various breeds of dogs used by the military and a lone Military Working Dog handler are lifelike and beautifully done by their artist.  One of the most interesting parts of the monument is the "Never Forgotten Fountain", a watering fountain for your dogs in remembrance of the working dogs left behind at the end of the Vietnam War. Service flags and the American Flag fly on poles behind the monument. Additionally, the National Monument is beautifully lit at night.

Many people do not know that the MWD Teams National Monument is open to the public and their dogs! You must stop at the visitors center located off Military Drive to get a base pass. Tell the Security Forces Airmen working in the visitors center that you would like a base pass to see the MWD Teams National Monument. You and any adults in your party MUST provide a valid drivers license or ID card. After a brief background check, you will be given a base pass to visit the monument. Please note, if you have certain criminal convictions or wants/warrants for your arrest, you will not be allowed access to the installation. Contact me for further information. If you have any issues accessing the base, please send me a personal message so I can assist.

Description of Memorial:
I am a Military Working Dog Handler and I was involved in the dedication ceremony. The National Monument is located adjacent to the parade field at Lackland Air Force Base, where all U.S. Air Force Basic Trainees graduate and become U.S. Air Force Airmen. Lackland Air Force base is the home of the Department of Defense Military Working Dog Program. All Military Working Dogs and their handlers are trained at Lackland. Therefore, the location is very fitting for this amazing National Monument.
