La paroisse Saint-Camille-de-Lelis a été fondée le 11 juillet 1960, mais ce n’est que 8 ans après que l’église paroissiale a été bâtit. En effet, l’ouverture officielle a eu lieu le 8 décembre 1968.
L’Habitat Saint-Camille, le nom de l’église, est un bâtiment peu conventionnel pour l’époque. Au lieu d’un style traditionnel, néo-classique, on a décidé de construire une église qui se subdiviserait en plusieurs locaux polyvalents. On a retenu l’idée d’une église en amphithéâtre. Le chœur a été fait de façon à servir également de scène. L’autel et l’ambon sont en bois et amovibles et le degré de l’autel peut disparaître sous le plancher. La partie avant de la nef, sur une longueur de sept rangées de siège (230 sièges), est disposée en gradins assurant une bonne vision sur le chœur. La capacité totale est de 807 places.
L’Habitat Saint-Camille est reconnu comme étant la petite Place des Arts de Montréal. Plusieurs vedettes y ont présenté leur spectacle, dont Monique Leyrac, Ginette Reno, Jean Lapointe, Robert Charlebois, Yvon Deschamps, Gilbert Bécaud, et encore.
Montréal-Nord est un arrondissement de la ville de Montréal au Québec (Canada) situé au nord-est de l'île de Montréal sur la rive de la rivière des Prairies. Son territoire s'étend sur quelques kilomètres en aval du Sault-au-Récollet et de la centrale de la Rivière-des-Prairies. The parish of Saint-Camille-de-Lelis was founded on July 11, 1960, but it wasn't until 8 years later that the the parish church was built. Indeed, the official opening took place on December 8th, 1968.
L’Habitat Saint-Camille, the name of the church, was an unconventional building at the time of its build. Instead of a traditional, neo-classical style, it was decided to build a church that could be subdivided into several multipurpose rooms. The idea of a church auditorium (amphitheater) was retained. The choir (chancel) was made to serve also as a stage. The altar and the pulpit are made of wood and removable and the steps of the altar may disappear under the floor. The front part of the nave, over a length of seven rows of seats (230 seats) is arranged in tiers in order to give a good view on the choir. The total capacity is 807 places.
L’Habitat St Camille is recognized as the little Place des Arts in Montreal. Several French and French Canadian celebrities have presented their show there: Monique Leyrac, Ginette Reno, Jean Lapointe, Robert Charlebois, Yvon Deschamps, Gilbert Becaud, and so on.
