Michael Fischer-Art hat im Wandbild "20 Jahre danach" oder auch kurz Wendebild, seine persönlichen Erfahrungen aus dem Jahr 1989 und seinem Leben in der DDR verarbeitet. Als Mitglied der Jungen Gemeinde und aufgrund regimekritischer Äußerungen blieb ihm der Zugang zum Abitur verwehrt, so dass er zunächst als Anstreicher, Hausmeister und später als Krankenpfleger in der Psychiatrie arbeitete. Im Jahr 1989 nahm er an den Leipziger Montagsdemonstrationen teil und äußerte sich dort künstlerisch mit von ihm gestalteten Transparenten.

Das gesamte Wandgemälde (100 m lang, 30 m hoch und damit 3000 Quadratmeter groß) ist Ende September 2009 fertig gestellt worden. Im linken Bereich zeigt es die friedlichen Demonstrationen am 9. Oktober 1989, im Mittelteil Bilder zum Thema »Flucht in die Freiheit« und auf der rechten Seite den Mauerfall. Ca. 20 Helfer von Praktikanten über Kunsthochschüler bis hin zu Anwälten, Notaren und Ärzten arbeiteten nach detallierten Vorgaben rund ein halbes Jahr an diesem Großprojekt und verbrauchten dabei insgesamt etwa 3,5 Tonnen Acrylfarbe.

Michael Fischer-Art will mit diesem Bild provozieren. Es zeige die Mauer, mehrere Wachtürme und Soldaten, die ihre Waffen auf die Zivilbevölkerung richten. Es verdeutliche den "fragenden Blick" der Menschen, die vor einer Betonwand stünden. Michael Fischer-Art sagte, es werde Leute geben, die mit seiner Darstellung nicht einverstanden seien. Der Künstler will mit seinem Werk an die Schrecken der DDR Diktatur und die Friedliche Revolution von 1989 erinnern.

Michael Fischer-Art processed his personal experiences in 1989 and his life in the DDR in the "after 20 years" wall painting. As a member of the Young community and because of dissident expressions, his access to the Abitur (~High school) was denied, so he initially worked as a painter, janitor, and later worked as a male nurse in the psychiatry. In 1989 he participated in the Leipzig Monday demonstrations and expressed himself artistically with selfdesigned banners.


The entire wall painting (100 meters long, 30 meters high and 3000 square meters big) was completed in late September 2009. On the left side it shows the peaceful demonstrations on October 9 1989, in the central part are images of the theme "escape to freedom" and on the right side is the Berlin Wall. Ca. 20 helpers; trainees, art students to lawyers, notaries and doctors, worked after detailed specifications about half a year on this project and spent a total of about 3.5 tons acrylic colour.

Michael Fischer-Art want to provocate with this wall painting. It show the wall, several watchtowers and soldiers aiming their guns at civilians. It illustrative the "quizzical look" of the people, who stood in front of a concrete wall. Michael Fischer-Art said, there would be people who did not agree with his presentation. The artist wants his work to remember the horrors of the DDR dictatorship and the Peaceful Revolution of 1989.
